How do l get internet on my hp laptop?

okay so l just got a black hp laptop.but the thing is l don't know how 2 get internet on it?my friend said l need a router.she told me don't get a wireless router because she said it will lose connection fast.but l don't really know and please help because l really need internet.and if l need 2 get a wireless router or a router where do l connect it too?please help!

It rele all depends on who your internet provider is, if its sympatico call 310-surf i had the same problem and it was together in 5 minutes, if your internet provider is rogers call rogers you know what i mean. a router doesnt rele do anything unless you want you laptop to have internet all over you house, but if your laptop is in only one place than in that case whats the need for a router. i have the same comp and i can pick up a wireless conection from my neighbors. so tlk to ur neighbors and see if they have a connection that you can use. if you do end up getting a router down in the bottom right corner u should see 2 comps with like an earth in the corner of it if you double click that u should see your connections and maybe be able to pick up a signal. i hope this helps and i know its alot of info but ya GOOD LUCK!!! ps. when you get a router there should be instructions or if u call ur provider again they should help you that what their there for
