Hook up laptop to TV?

Best way to hook laptop up to TV (CRT/Rear Projector)?

  • Im using a macbook pro and i am looking for a cheap solution to hooking my laptop up to a tv (dont care about quality honestly). A few notes though the tv's are older, they will only have RCA hook up , so VGA on a tv is not an option. I did see that they sell VGA/RCA chords so i could go from my laptop to tv using that but not sure if it would work as most are for HDTV's . Once again my tv's are older not HD, just the old school 45" rear projection tv's from the 90's with a crap load of RCA inputs. Any other solutions would be great. Thanks

  • Answer:

VGA to RCA (composite) should be OK for Standard Definition TV inputs. I saw a 6 foot cable at Buy.com for 25 cents, but the shipping was eight dollars! So go to Radio Shack or Best Buy. And if your set doesn't have a Digital Tuner (ATSC), you will need a DTV Converter Box by February of 2009, unless you have Satellite or Cable TV. The Converter Boxes have nice RCA outputs, and some would allow throughput from your computer cables. Otherwise, use different TV RCA inputs for the Converter Box and your computer outputs.

you know there is vga to rca cable but it is expensive. Also do you not have the s-video adapter on mac book and tv, that would be the best and cheapest solution if you have the adapter on both.
