HELP With An External Monitor on Old Dell Laptop?

I just got a dell laptop and somehow my son got the picture on the monitor turned sideways. HELP?

We got it switched back by pressing F8 but I have no idea why this worked. It would be good to know how he did it incase it happens again. Also on the f8 key in blue there is something that says CRT/LCD what is that? Thanks.

Pressing ctrl-alt-left arrow / right arrow turns the display using some operating systems and graphics cards. The CRT/LCD key is described in your latop's manual. It is used to switch between the external and laptop displays.

Here is how you get it back: Screen sideways or upside down "ctrl - alt - up arrow" How it got there could be almost anything. Good Luck
