My MSN isn't working?

Why isnt msn messenger working on my laptop?

If you are connected, check your firewall settings and adjust your proxy settings:' i had checked in connection, proxy settings, and the firewall is not blocking it. i've already downloaded it twice and it stil isnt working! i can sign into msn hotmail its just the messenger that isnt working. i dont know what to do. please help im on vista by the way (dont know whether that helps)

  Go to getlive.com and download the Live Essentials Pack which will make sure you have the very latest Messenger. If that doesn't help, check to see if you use a router to access the internet. If so you might have to create a port forward or port trigger for the range of ports that Messenger uses. The list of ports is documented at the Messenger support site and it's a good idea to check those ports in any case because Messenger works a whole lot better when they are set up right in your router.
