Is Gateway laptop any good?

What are some good reasons not to buy a gateway or dell laptop?

  • I know you have to send them in to repair them but I would other reasons why **I SHOULD NOT** buy a Dell or Gateway. Something to share would be crash issues, mobility, processor speed...etc.

  • Answer:

Well, how about a reason to not buy from Dell and Gateway, but HP, Sony, Toshiba, Lenovo, Apple, and all those big names like that? That reason is that they don't make their own laptops. (OMG! Apple doesn't make their own computers? NOWAI!?!?! You're sooooo wrong!!!!!<<<<< What Apple zombies will say) They buy barebones (cases with a motherboard, processor, usually graphics, and ports) from other companies such as ASUS, Compal, Clevo, and MSI. It is THOSE companies that really make the computers. And since they make them, they have to compete with eachother for the money of the big companies, so they are constantly having to cut their own costs in the systems they build for those other companies so that they can offer a better price. This shows in just how often big brands break down, how many repairs they need, and general low quality. Now, when you buy directly (or as directly as possible, in Clevo's case it would probably be the Sager brand) you are getting a much better built system than from the other companies, and at a better price for the quality AND for a faster machine, since there is no 3rd party involved beyond the guys that you actually buy from (you have to find an online seller/go to a store that sells these brands). You can typically find a high performance laptop for hundreds of dollars cheaper than the big guys if you look into Sager and ASUS. The easiest to get would be an ASUS computer, they are at Best Buy, Costco, Target, Walmart... they are really making a presence of themselves lately but you wont find the best price in a store, nor will it be a computer you can chose the parts for. Online places like xoticpc and cyberpower are well known online dealers. That said, you get a faster system, better build quality, and better support (ASUS's tech support actually looks at other website forums to find people with problems and collects data to fix them from other places beyond the people who contact them directly). And as a side not... Mac's get viruses... why else would they have virus protection software in their Apple Store? Or why would they TELL their users to get some protection? (they are also pretty slow systems for the price)

i dissent to ur query. dell is a very good brand, in fact, i have the dell studio xps 16 and its incomparable to other laptops, especially the graphics and design. topnotch. the only thing about mine is it sometimes gets hot, but thats not a big issue for me. the performance is great and so far, it has never crashed. plus, i had an older dell laptop and its still good, (got it 6 years ago)

There aren't really any reasons they're just brands from personal experience I would go with Dell over Gateway though. Most new computers should have good processor speed, RAM... crashes are mostly just related to the operating system get Windows 7 and you'll be good with that. Oh and Macs do get viruses by the way...

The best reason is can buy a Apple laptop. Trust me, buy the cheapest one they have and you won't be sorry. They just work. Bonus: no viruses!
