My webcam doesnt work why?

i have a dell latitude laptop with a single usb port and since i have a boradband connection which connects through the usb port i got a usb multi hub.... so from the single usb port i connected this usb hub and i connected the broadband connection and the webcam.... my webcam works when its connected directly to the laptop but when i connect it to the hub it doesnt work.... as a result when i use my webcam i cant connect to the broadband and when i connect to the internet ( broadband) i cant connect my webcam...... how frustrating, I even changed the usb hub and got an expensive one... still it doesnt work,.... Im a doctor and am clueless about computer knowhow... can any computer brians help me?

In my experience, usb hubs are useless, sorry. Has your laptop got a pcmcia card slot? if so you can get a hub card with 2 or more usb sockets on them. they work well. for example:-
