Can you use your msn for anything else?

My notepad has no sound device, so I cannot use skype, msn, or listen to anything?

  • I won the notepad from the radio, so microsoft (it has windows XP) wont answer my questions--I dont know who the manufacturer is. Is there a simple solution, download or something I can purchase to resolve this.

  • Answer:

First off I am a little confused about your wording. Notepad? I am assuming you mean notebook or tablet PC. I cant imagine it was made without a sound device. There are several things that could cause no sound. When troubleshooting PC problems always start with the simple things first. There should be a sound Icon in your system tray at the bottom of your screen on the right. If it is there click the Icon and make sure it is not muted and the volume slider is turned up. If there is no Icon in the system tray for sound (a little gray speaker) go to: Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices and double click the Icon to open Sounds and Audio Devices Properties. Click the Volume tab if it is not there by default. Here you will see a volume slider make sure it is turned up to high or around there. You will also see Mute make sure there is not a green check in the box next to Mute. Also you will see Place volume icon in the taskbar make sure this has a green check in the box, if not click it. Then click Apply. This is usually enough to correct a simple audio problem. If this does not correct your problem, please feel free to contact me via email or im. Whatever it is I am sure we can correct it through fairly simple procedures. Good luck.

In this day and age I can't image a laptop (what is the brand/model?) that wouldn't have some kind of audio built in, but what it certainly can be lacking is just the speakers/earphones and a microphone. You might try hooking up a USB headset and see if that works. With the brand and model you can go to the manufacture (web site) and ask the question. Microsoft isn't going to know if your laptop supports sound.

Whatever

I go with the above!
