Actually I was updating my Windows from Web all of a sudden a message " That my windows are not genuine" started coming. Even I am unaware that my Windows are genuine or not as my computer vendor has installed them. On recieving this message I had restored my PC to an earlier point after which that message was stopped. Please guide me that whether Microsoft via any means trace my location & file a case/raid against me.(I am already in talk with my vendor in this regards)

this happens more then you think. I have a friend that had gotten a copy of Xp pro and installed it with a legit key. few weeks ago, he got the same message and called microsoft. They told him this and i quote " Get a new copy of xp. It's not the expensive".

Sounds like you have a copy, not a singular purchased version. They can only trace to your isp. Best to buy a version. Now you know why no one likes the intrusivness of XP. If your "vendor" sold it to you, you can report them on windows snitch site.

Vendor may have installed a pirated copy of windows. Microsoft now has a genuine download that you install. It will not let you download updates until you can verify that you have a genuine copy. Just don't download it on the updates page. Only thing is you can't do updates to the software anymore.

Microsoft can definitely trace your software, and find a computer that is using a cracked version of Windows. If you're version came on your computer, you should contact the supplier immediately.

Microsoft won't go through the trouble of making a case against you. From what it sounds like, you have a pirated copy of Windows. Pirated copies can't receive Windows updates. My advice: If it's still under warranty, call your vendor and see if they can send you a copy of Windows that isn't pirated or ask for your money back since a version of Windows that can't update is susceptible to viruses. If it's not, install another (and legal) copy of windows after backing up all your data and formatting the hard drive.

well, Microsoft claims no, but do you really trust them? also if you got XP from your vendor, did you pay for it? If you did and your vendor did not give you a Genuine Windows XP, then call Microsoft and report your vendor. As for me personally, I don't trust anything about Microsoft, look XP is on almost every computer in the world, doesn't that say something right there? I use Windows 2000 Server Legit and Paid for and I use FREE Ubuntu Linux !!!! Do a search on the net about this... there is a lot of talk about computers with this NAG connecting to Microsoft's servers 50 times a day and driving people crazy.... I tell most people in business.... spend the money, get legit, you don't want to put a black eye on your company for something so simple..... Check the URL below
