How do I activate a camera for my mac?

How can I get my MAC to read my camera's files?

  • Hello. I filmed a Spanish project today. My Camera is a fuji film, and I put a San-disk SD card into the slot. I inserted my SD card into an SD card reader and plugged it into the SD card dock in the back. However, I cannot seem to find my SD card on the Mac as if the Mac cannot detect it. After that, I had another attempt to hook my camera up onto the Mac via USB cord, but to no avail. How can I get my mac to detect my software?? Thank you ^_^

  • Answer:

    >First, insert your card reader into the computer and let it DETECT it as a device. Mac probably is like a PC (I would think), in that you must first install the DEVICE (the card reader). Mac O/S probably then detectes the device and installs the device driver for the card reader. After you have done that, THEN, put the SD card in the reader and see if it works. I am thinking you just need to get your Mac to see the card reader as a DEVICE.

Which model is "my MAC"??? Which OS version??? My answer is for MacBook Pro 2011 running OS 10.7. Perhaps "Jim" thought you had installed Windows on your Mac. He does say "Mac probably is like a PC" and I think he means "OS X probably is like Windows". Well, it is not. You never have to install drivers for any "mass storage" device (drive, disk, disc, disk reader) in Mac OS. You will never see any message "Installing software for the device" like in Windows. All disk drivers are always in the system and always loaded for bear. Open Finder Preferences. Select "Sidebar". Under "Devices", put a check for "External Disks". If that doesn't help.... Open Disk Utility. That's where you can see any connected disk / disc / drive. Select the disk and notice the format. If it shows "Not formatted", that's the problem. Your camera can format the disk. All data will be lost. Sorry. If it shows any "normal" format such as "MS-DOS" or "NTFS", chose the volume name (might be "untitled") and click "Repair Disk". If the disk is not shown in Disk Utility, your connection is not good. Try a different USB cable or connect to a different computer (Mac or PC) to see if your Mac's USB port might have some issue.
