I have reformatted my hard disk and installed windows xpm but i noticed that i don't have direct x 9.0c, so i decided to reformat again my pc and install windows xp sp2 with dx 9.0c... but when i was going to format my hard drive, it's stucked at 63%... and then an error appeared saying that my hard idisk is damaged, and another error apear saying i should restart my pc because i can damage my pc if i continue. when i restarted my pc and boot again, nothing happened, i can't load windows setup to format my HD, but when i unplug the HD, i can load the windows setup. WHAT HAPPENED TO MY HARD DRIVE? Is it busted? HELP mE GUYS

  • Answer:

More than likely your install was corrupted and you cannot proceed. Use a drive wipe program to overwrite your current install. This is not a format. This destroys all data on the drive. I use and recommend Kill Disk. It is a freeware Quick Wipe. http://www.KillDisk.com/ It takes about 1 hour per 10 gb of hard drive space.

If you can go to the web site of the manufacture of your hard drive and look for their disc utilities software. You my have to load it on a floppy drive. You will then need your computer to boot to the floppy to run the tools in DOS mode that's' if you have a floppy.

if you messed up during the format i recommend you use webroot system eraser from webroot window washer. it's a great tool if you want to start from scratch and have a fresh install.

try formatting is not quick format..... if it still occur... borrow a windows xp sp2 bootable cd..... in the windows setup.... delete all the partitions... recreate partitions if you have....if you dont have... then delete the partition and create one.... (you have to back up files by plugging it into other computer before doing this) try formatting it.... if it fails then something is wrong with it...

Your hard drive is most likely bad bro. I hope you backed that data up. How old is the hard drive? Try once more to reformat it fully using the "Format with NTFS option" not NTFS(Quick). If that doesn't work you need a new HDD.

The Problem with ur Hard Disk is that it is having Bad Sectors. Now first u will have to use the Windows 98 Setup and with this setup do a Low Level Format of ur harddisk this will fix ur bad sector. Once it is done install XP

At the "C:\>" dos command prompt type in "format C:\". That will format the entire drive. Direct x 9.0 can be downloaded off the net. Don't forget you will need all of the drivers for the mobo sound, and video from the net also or from the mobo installation cd.

you did not mention what brand of computer you have or hd...anyways....do a boot from xp cd... and go to recovery console and run this command first try chkdsk /R or debug..... it will take time but will clean ur hdd. if works try both in sequence
