Which is a better and faster computer processor?

I want a gaming computer but which processor is better?

  • I'm looking at a new gaming computer but I am unsure of which processor would be better. Should I get the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16 ghz or Intel Core i7 920 2.66 ghz? Thanks.

The Core i7 processors are new and would probably be better. The higher gHz on the Core 2 Duo doesn't necessarily mean it's faster or anything.

i7 hands down if you can afford it.

Get the i7 you'll have twice the amount of cores and you can over clock it up to 4.2Ghz. The i7 will give u the best performance in a game so get it if u can afford it. For high end gaming the following cards are great: ATI Graphics Cards: ATI Radeon 4850 ATI Radeon 4870 (Best for performance\price) ATI Radeon 4890 ATI Radeon 4870X2 (Best Card ATM) Nvidia Graphics Cards: 9800GT (1G Dedicated) GTS 250 (Best for performance\price) GTX 260 GTX 275 GTX 285 GTX 295 (Second best Card ATM) Remember that ATI cards run hot so if u dont have cooling u might want to go with one of the cool Nvidia cards. i7 ftw, but you also need a pretty decent graphic card if you want to play game at high resolution, i recommended the GTX250 all the way to GTX295 if you can afford it, if not 9800GT 1GB is fine :] hope this help
