When I turn on my Desktop pc, it right away turns off, how can I find out what's wrong?
-
Now the problem is, when I turn on the switch, it turns off in about 5 seconds. I can see the fans in the Desktop start, but they right away stop and the pc goes all off. What could be going on here? I took perfect care of my pc, I let it rest every night an all, and I upgraded the hard drive myself, from 300GB to 1TB, and my Ram is upgraded to 6 GB, and every time I get a big virus, I just reinstall Windows 7 and so it's good as new. So I don't get what could have happened? Is there some way I can test out my Desktop to find out what's wrong?

Answer:
Sounds like you have some type of hardware issue - could be anything from the Power Supply to the RAM you updated going bad.. and everything in between. Few things you can try to do here. The CPU is getting too hot most new CPU's have a built in fail safe to shutdown if it gets to a certain temp. Try removing the heatsink - clean the bottom of the heatsink and CPU and put new thermal grease on it and then put it all back together. Test - if that doesn't work move to the next step. (Btw - if you see any type of serious discoloration or smell anything funny/electrical - then your done - you will need to get some parts replaced.) Clear the CMOS on the motherboard. To do this you will see a Round Battery typically near the bottom of the mother board. Remove it - hit the power button (With the PC POWERED OFF) for a few seconds then replace the battery. - Test You stated you updated your RAM? Try removing the new sticks and only put one back in the closest slot near the CPU. - Test Next thing you can try is if NONE of that is working? Remove/unplug all of your internal hardware. Make it so you ONLY have Video/Motherboard/Memory - To do this all you need to do is unplug your CD ROM and Hard Disk from Power and Motherboard. If you have any cards - sound, network, dual video cards etc... remove them. The idea is to get it as bare bones as possible to try and isolate the cause. A few other things that could cause it to Power down: Faulty Power Supply - Try replacing it. Faulty Memory - No way to test it unless you try the RAM in another computer or take it to your local Compu-Hut to have it tested. Faulty Video Card Some type of Short in the system - a loose wire - to a poorly mounted motherboard - these are very frustrating to try and locate and troubleshoot. Faulty Motherboard.

Did you flip the little switch in the back to change the voltage? I did that once a long time ago becuase I thought it would increase the PSU's power and thats how my computer acted when i did. Otherwise does it have a motherboard speaker? If not it could be giving you a POST code that you can't hear.
