How can I install MSN on Linux?

Linux just won't install on my PC?

  • I've tried pretty much every Linux distro and there's only a hand full that actually boot or even install. Linux distros such as Ubuntu, Fedora 15, Mandriva and Arch Linux all load up on the CD, but as soon as i hit enter to install from the CD, all of the above get messages like udevd time-out... or simply don't do anything - black screen, no HDD indicator. i have tried configuring my whole BIOS and i'm still getting this time-out error or black screens. For example I hit install for arch Linux and then it goes through the command prompt like thing and everything comes up with time-out for this udevd thing etc and then after the 180 seconds time-out it takes me to the command prompt and i just have to crash my computer. What is going on, all i wanted to install linux thinking it will be easier and faster than windows, and it has proven me wrong. I have installed ubuntu 9 in the past and that worked and i went through the whole installer, reset and didn't stay on a black screen unlike ubuntu 11. Please someone help because i want to try these linux distros and non of them are working, can't even install half of them.

  • Answer:

udev is the device manager for the Linux kernel. Primarily, it manages device nodes in /dev. It is the successor of devfs and hotplug, which means that it handles the /dev directory and all user space actions when adding/removing devices, including firmware load. Try formatting the hard drive when you install. If that doesn't work and/or you want to keep your current distribution for now while trying other distribution, try installing the various distributions in virtual box. That way you can also compare them side by side and you can keep doing other things when you are installing them.

Maybe have a go at installing this one alongside Windows instead: http://www.splashtop.com/os

They all work. Ask yourself what you are doing wrong. Use the net, not here.
