What to do with old power supplies?

What happens when I combine computer power supplies?

  • I have one used dell power supply that is running a car amp. the power supply is rated for 230 watts . the car amp is rated for about 500w. The power supply works great but kicks off every once in a while due to such a large draw if i turn up the car amp. My question is can I combine my current power supply of 230 watts and add another used power supply I currently have (thats rated for 200 watts) and if I combine them will I get a total of 430 max watts? I do understand I could buy a bigger power supply but the point is I'm curious If someone already knew the answer so I can save some cash and or time before I buy bigger power supply or hook up the 200 watt supply. thanks!

  • Answer:

Short Answer,: It is possible. Long Answer: Don't do it, Amps, work best and most efficiently when 1 power supply is used, apart from the problem of attaching a second PSU to the amp and any changes you have to make to fit the 2 together, you can damage the AMP.
