What can i do to fix my P.C?

My PC keeps shutting off without warning. What could be wrong and how can I fix this problem?

  • My computer keeps abruptly shutting off (at least once every hour). The monitor goes to sleep during this time. When it does shut off, it starts trying to power back on after only a few seconds. It doesn't take right away though - like it will go on and off maybe about four times before it legit powers back up. I thought there was something wrong with my power, but the monitor is still on and I also have my laptop plugged into the same outlet and it's working just fine, so I have no idea. I would greatly appreciate your help! Edit: It's not turning on at all now. Not even when I try to manually turn it on. The monitor light is still on though.

  • Answer:

Sounds like your motherboard was overheating and shutting itself down to compensate. Or there was some sort of internal power shortage or an external problem with the wiring of the power cord. It could also be a really bad virus but the fact that it's not shutting on at all seems to indicate a hardware issue rather than a software problem. First try replacing the power cord. If that doesn't work you can try switching out the hard drive to see if that helps but I'd recommend taking it to a computer specialist as taking parts out of a PC can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

Most likely it is your power supply, the one located inside the computer. At that point it is best to just buy a new computer. But the easiest way to diagnose it is, if the computer is saying shutting down then you may get lucky and have a software failure. On the other hand if it is just going black then it is almost definitively a power supply or is overheating, overheating is cheaper to fix normally though, and is more common. Hope this helps.

1.Virus 2.Hardware this are the two thing that I think could be your problem and you power in the computer is distributed differently through voltage

Has the power adapter ever been replaced? Many 'universal' power adapters actually undersupply devices such as laptops, and can't put power in as quickly as the laptop is drawing it out, so ultimately, the laptop crashes, even though it says its charging. You can identify this by comparing the 'Output' specs of the adapter (they're usually written on the box part) to the 'input' specs of the laptop - the voltages should be the SAME, and amps should be the same or higher. Failing that, I'd go with overheating - a tech can take the laptop apart and clean the fans, but I'd hate to think what many would charge...as a basis though, I can completely disassemble, clean and reassemble a laptop with 1 hour of labour, so don't let any techs try and pull 3 or 4 hours on you
