How do you ground the PC Case?

How to ground myself when building PC?

  • I have asked this question before.. but apparently I added too much detail and it side-tracked people to not answer my main question but my story. Where I live is VERY dry and HOT. I get static electricity shock just by combing my hair. My PC parts are arriving soon, where I will start building. My friend has given me his anti-static wrist-strap before he left on vacation. I believe it is used.. not sure if it will work. My house has carpet all over except the master bathroom, where I may end up building my PC there. I will strip down to my boxers for safety precautions, MAIN QUESTION: What will I ground my anti-static wrist-strap to and have my other hand touching? I have a THERMALTAKE v3 black edition case. THIS CASE IS PAINTED BLACK INSIDE AND OUT, and if the metal is painted/coated, you cannot ground yourself from it.. (What I heard online) My PSU is green coated... What can I ground myself to with the wrist-strap? Advice please.. Thank you.

  • Answer:

Your wrist strap should be fastened to a metal section of the computer tower... as long as the computer tower (into which you will be placing components) is at the same static charge as you are... there can be no hazardous discharge to your components.
