I need somebody whos good with PC's! Whats the best processor?
-
Hi everyone, I have saved up a lot of money now and i am looking to splash out on a new PC. The only problem is... I have no idea what I am buyng when it comes to PC's... :( Ideally I want a very good PC capable of playing fairly recent computer games on but not a super mega PC... just a ''Good'' one. So I am looking on the internet and am getting confused with all these things: Ram/ Ghz/ Hard drive space (I assume the bigger the number the better?) but also it talks about processors... what are the best from the list below and why?1 AMD Athlon (12) AMD Athlon 64 (6) AMD Athlon 64 X2 (40) AMD Athlon XP (2) AMD Sempron (1) Intel Celeron (3) Intel Pentium (3) Intel Pentium 4 (15) Intel Pentium 4 HT (11) Intel Pentium D (7) Intel Pentium II Thanks in advance guys.

Answer:
I'd say the 2 best price to performance processors on the market are, Intel Core i5 2500 AMD Phenom 2 X4 955 The Phenom 2 is $50 less than the i5 2500. The best of the brands are, Intel Core i7 2600 AMD Phenom 2 X6 1100T (six-core) The Core i7 2600 is about $90 more than the Core i5 2500. The Core i7 2600 has hyper-threading (HT) 2mb more L3 cache, and it's 100mhz faster then the Core i5 2500. You could take the saving with the processors and use it to buy other parts for your computer... Like a faster graphics card, a second hard drive for back-ups and files, a BDROM. Ghz doesn't make much of a difference anymore. It's more about the type of processor. ghz will make a difference when you're looking at processors of the same brand. For example, the Core i5 2300 runs at 2.8ghz while the Core i5 2500 runs at 3.2ghz All the processors you have listed are out of production. The Call of Duty Black ops system requirements are beyond those processors. In that list, the AMD Athlon 64 X2 was the best.

The problem with your question is that each of those processors listed span a wide range of performance possibilities. In other words, there are some AMD Athlon 64's that will outperform an AMD Athlon 64 X2, but the majority of the X2's are faster. When it comes to RAM and Hard drive space, bigger is better. But when it comes to CPU Ghz, it is not always the case. Use this site to tell which CPU's are the best: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/

There is no end when you talking about the "best" pc. You need to give a budget on how much you are willing to spend. Currently the Intel i5/i7 chips are very good for their prices. Out of the CPUs you have listed, I wouldn't get any of them even if they were free of charge. General rule: Yes, higher number the better. CPU: 2.4ghz + RAM: 4GB + PSU: 500W+ HDD: 500GB + one last thing, the most important ITEM. If you want to play games, you will need a good video card. Depending on your price range, they can range anywhere from $50-$500. I would recommend a GTX460 ($160-200ish). This will allow you to play many new games on the market.

None really. Right now, it's Intel's Core i7 line, followed by AMD's Phenom X6. Out of the list, Athlon 64 X2, which beats Pentium D substantially. Also, GHz != higher performance. 2Ghz Core 2 Duos s could beat 3.6GHz Pentium Ds with ease.

The answer is that there is no definative answer to this question. Everyone has there own take on it, there own likes and dislikes. Essentially, without mentioning any types of processors you need to look for: Quad core processors with the highest level Ghz possible. A decent amount or Ram ( which is Memory) - don't forget More RAM can be added later if needed usually. A good HD graphics card with the highest level of memory that you can afford. A good priced sound card A HDTV - try to get a 1080 tv, not just a HD ready tv - if you want to enjoy pure HD movies direct from your computer.

What is up with the list of antique processors????? Mother Board(MOBO) Processor(specified by mother board) Intel or AMD, then Get a quad core that the mobo will work with RAM specified by MOBO -get at least 4 Giga-Byte(GB) 8 would be better ( DDR2 or DD3 they don't interchange) HD need to get a Western Digital 7200 RPM in 1 Tera-Byte (TB) Video Card- NVidea GeForce 9800GT or better or ATI Radeon 5700 or better Shop at tigerdirect/geeks/newegg and their search criteria will actually educate you.
