Which is a better and faster computer processor?

Which is a better computer processor? AMD OR INTEL?

  • I can get either an hp with an amd dual processor or a a dell with an intel dual processor. The hp has 4 gigs ram and 620 gig hard drive the dell has 4 gig ram and 320 gig hard drive which computer should I buy. Ids the AMD processor better than the intel?

  • Answer:

My personal opinion is AMD because value is higher on my priority list than performance. Intel will almost always beat AMD in performance, but AMD gives you more bang for your buck. For an example, my AMD Athlon II x4 630 was $100. It is a low-end Quad-core Processor that will out-muscle any Core 2 Duo, and early/low-end Core 2 Quads (however, any the Q8xxx, and Q9xxx series will out-perform mine at stock speeds), but considering that fact that the Core 2 Duo E8400 is still $250+ and the Core 2 Quad isn't that much faster than the Athlon II x4 630 but is will over doubled the price, I think the AMD is a win in my book. Also, Intel (at the moment) has only ONE six-core CPU: Core i7 980 EXTREME edition. AMD has the Phenom II x6 (x6 meaning six cores), two models, one at $200, another at $300. The Core i7 920 (quad-core) is still $280. The Phenom II x6 will out-perform the 920, however, the Core i7 980 will slaughter the Phenom II x6... Again the I bring up the price; the high-end Phenom II x6 is less than 33% the price of the Core i7, and I will tell you right now that the Core i7 980 will not out perform the Phenom II x6 by 3 times... In fact, it is doubtful that it even has twice the performance. To sum it up, I believe AMD is better because you will get a bigger bang for your buck, but if budget is of no concern to you, Intel always makes faster processors.

Your question is like asking "What kind of vehicle should I get?" It depends. What do you plan to do with the system? If you play games or edit video, you'll need a fast, powerful CPU but the video card has a bigger impact on performance as it can offload work from the processor. If you just want a business system or something to work on email almost any modern processor will do. Having the fastest processor in the world won't help download speeds as you'll be held back by the speed (and availability) of your broadband connection--all processors wait at the same speed. If the applications you use are "CPU-bound" a faster processor or better video card can help. However, a good balance of hardware and enough RAM can go a long way to helping you get a satisfactory experience. Good luck.

if you're going to use it for gaming, multitasking and at the same time database, i recommend Intel. but if you're only going to use it for game and multitasking, i recommend AMD next time specify you question. It will help in answering

Intel processors are generally better than AMD ones, but since you didn't list specific processor models, we can't say with any certainty.

People need to know computer model or more specifically the processor models as they vary a lot. Having said that they are both dual cores may be similar in processing power. As mentioned by someone else one offers lots more storage space. both have same amount of ram, again we don't know if ddr2 or maybe ddr3. Check the chart below and find your cpu's for comparison.

Depending on the processor model will determine which is better. AMD tends to run a little hotter than Intel, but processor speed is processor speed.....for example an Intel i7 and a AMD Phenom II X4 benchmarks are rather similiar.

Intel ones are generally much better. But, I would focus more on how much space you want on it seeing as how there's a HUGE difference in that and processors aren't really that much different.

The Phenom processors are awesome for everyone , even if Intel has the Xeon dual processors available in HP and MAC Pro for $3,800.00 with the PC at this level using SLi. Also, for business use the i7 will have no bottle necks on an ethernet connection ; this will coinside with the hard drive you are caching from. I suggest the Raptor 16MB 600GB 10,000 rpm Western Digital 2010 model.

Well both the processors are really good but if you want majority for gaming purpose then I think you should check out AMD processors they are known for their speed and for games. As well as Intel are good too but they are not known that much for games they are more known for home users and for office users.

If your criteria is storage then the HP AMD is the way to go. The AMD is a pretty hardy processor, reason actually the AMD is slight faster then the Intel. Plus AMD's transport of data seems to be slightly faster.
