What's wrong with my computer monitor?

Computer screen turns black and monitor light turns from green to yellow. Whats wrong with my computer?

  • I've had this problem for awhile now. Sometimes if i'm using my computer for awhile, it will freeze for about 5 seconds, then the screen turns black and the light on the monitor turns yellow. However the computer is still running. If I turn the computer off and then on again, the screen shows nothing, but i can hear the computer booting up. If i take out the battery from the motherboard it fixes the problem but only for 30 minutes or so. I've tried updating all drivers, the bios, formatting the hard drive, everything!!! If I boot up in safe mode, everything works fine. Is my video card fried? Motherboard fried? Have you had this problem? Please help!!

    Nothing. The energy saver is on. Go to your display settings in control pannel and turn off energy saver.

I agree with the last answer. if it boots in safe mode and works fine, then the drivers are the problem. You might have to install the drivers (maybe even find the inf file for the driver after uninstalling and deleting the file) and then install a new one. if that doesn't work, something is going wrong with the video card (is it integrated or a separate card?) Is this windows XP? 2000?

yeah...right click on the desktop and go to properties....choose the screen saver tab and then choose the "power" options...see what the setting is for "turn off monitor" and set it to "never"...hit apply and then ok

there may be a problem with your video card. take it to a repair shop.

As it works in 'safe mode', using the generic driver in Windows, it could be a driver problem...have you recently installed an upgraded driver for the graphics card?... if so, roll back to an earlier version...if not, try an upgraded one
