Why does the sound on my tv have static when watching DVD's?

Watching dvds on the computer...?

  • when i watch a dvd on my computer, it freezes up with about 20 minutes to go in the movie. i can't fast-forward or rewind. if i try watching tv show dvds, it won't let me access the last 1 or 2 episodes on the dvd. when i first put in a dvd and go directly to a chapter at the beginning or in the middle, it starts right up. but if i try to access anything towards the end, it freezes up. i was able to get through an entire 2 hr. movie about 2 years ago, so i know it's capable of working. but about a month ago my tv lost sound while i was watching a movie so i tried to finish it on my computer and it played for about an hour and then stopped. i have a program to watch dvds that was already on the computer when i got it called InterVideo WinDVD 4 and i also use Windows Media Player 9 as well. i get the same results with both programs. what could be causing this? thanks for any suggestions. cheers, Shauna!

Upgrade your media player for one--media player 9 is old. Also upgrade your video drivers. Have you done any windows updates? Win DVD 4 is also old. They're up to Win DVD 8 now! Try Power DVD. It's like $10 on Ebay. A lot has happened with your computer in 2 years and I'm sure you've installed a lot of stuff into it in that time. shut programs you dont need running off before you play movies.

If you're problem is only the Movie you can use "DivX DVD Player" http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/player/ Enjoy....

I don't have any more helpful advice than to suggest yet another media player (even though it sounds like an operating system problem). Try VLC, it's all I ever use anymore.

sounds to me like your processor is getting overworked....(using up too much of it).. the first thing you need to do is to make sure that you are running almost NOTHING other than what program you use to play your DVDs... what I do is press CTRL+ALT+DEL then close everything EXCEPT Explorer..(task manager last, as that is the program you open when you press ctrl+alt+del) and also, DO NOT TOUCH anything with the user name (second column) of LOCAL SERCVICE or SYSTEM ..... your computer NEEDS these programs to run.. then, try to play the DVD if you get the same problem, you might want to look into a better Video Card, (vid card processes all the video data, instead of the main processer, resulting in a smooth picture) but, most likely, it is just too many programs open... you said you have been able to play a movie 2 years ago...in 2 years, a lot of programs can be set up to open automaticly also, just to be sure be sure to run a spyware scan (Spybot S&D) and a Virus Scan. (I ALWAYS recommend that)

GUMBY!

Also, try cleaning your DVD laser with a cleaning disc. It may just be dirty. My cleaning disc recommends to run it after every 10 hours of use. I don't of coarse but thats what it says.
