Answer:
you can reformat your pc even without the cd. there are a lot possible ways... you can insert a boot disk, are you can have a boot disk using a usb drive. you can also make your hard drive a slave in a another pc. however... note that when you format.. all of the information in you pc will be removed! and that includes the windows xp. that means you will still need an xp installation cd to reinstall your xp. try to check if your hard drive has a partition and if the installation files are saved in one of the partitions.

if your computer came without a disk, it means that there is a partition on your hard disk that contains the setup for re installing you operating system. reformatting your hard disk will erase everything on it. so when you restart your computer, right in the begining, you must see few options like press esc for boot menu, F10 for setup and something else for system recovery. if you have it that way, you can choose that option and start re formatting and re installing your system else there is no other way without a cd.

yah, you can reformat without the disc by simply putting to other pc and make it as a slave or something that it can't be a conflict betwwen the hard disks or other hardwares. But, you can't recover from reformatingas you have been said, no cd..no reinstallation of the Windows XP, contact the seller and get the good one or else buy or download it to the internet with cd keys.....hope it helps

Well, indeed , reformating without the cd its imposible =P You may reinstall the system without the CD but to get the files you need to download the CD anyway , so I'd recommend you to get a copy of windows XP and isntall it with your cdkey thats on the sticker aside of your PC

Did you buy this pc second hand? If its a main line computer mfgr you may be able to get an operational cd through them (sometimes for free) at their web site.(and it will contain all your drivers necessary to run your computer; Its not unusual, and a disk will certainly help in the future. If durring post you have a recovery option(in the lowwer left of your screen) F10,F8 etc.. use it if you cant get a disk. You can format but doing so will eliminate all soft ware; including your operating system,on the hard drive, so go the the pc's mfgs web site first , they might surprise you.

You can format a hard drive using many freely available tools on the Internet. One of the easiest is a Linux program that you burn to a CD, called GParted. The next issue that you would face though is what to do after you have formatted the hard drive. Though your computer would be cleared off, you would no longer have an operating system, or even a bootable partition for that matter. You would have to request a copy of the installation discs from your computers manufacture to be able to reinstall windows, and the 100+ updates that follow a fresh install of XP. However, there is another option that may work if you cannot obtain these discs. If you have a friend with the same computer manufacture (i.e. Dell) see if they have an OEM install disc. This disc can be used on your computer so long as you have the same manufacture. Simply find your XP Certificate of Authenticity Sticker on the top or side of your computer and pop in the serial number you see on it when prompted by the installer. Note: some OEM CDs do not prompt you for this serial code so it is IMPERATIVE that the disc come from the same company and be for the same edition of Windows XP... home or professional depending on what your sticker says. If you don't follow this, it would be software piracy, a no-no in the eyes of Microsoft and law abiding citizens :) Though this disc will work, Windows XP for the most part will not install the drivers that are necessary for your computer to fully function. To grab these drivers, simply go to your respective manufactures website and download all the drivers associated with your system (video, audio, ethernet, etc.) After you install all those, you should be set! I know the process sounds long and tedious, but its actually pretty straight forward as long as you take it one step at a time.

You will not have Windows XP if you reformat the hard drive unless you have a Windows XP disk to do he formatting with. Is there a reason you want to reformat the hard drive? There may be other answers for a problem you may be having.
