How do i get my computer to work?

How can I get the ati catalyst software to work on my computer...?

  • I have an older hp computer running XP sp2 Pro- 256 meg. ram 1 ghz, and I have A giant ati card in there- windows identifies it as an ATI 3D Rage II+ PCI and a tvtuner, and capture device, and other things, it says it installs everthing- but the card came out of a sony vaio m dad bought in 1995, and I remember his computer had the ati menus in display properties, and options to use the tv tuner and video outs and such- my system says it is installed and working properly- but no ati sub-menus, no catalyst, nothing ati at all... I've been trying for hours to get the drivers from ati to work, and so far nothing has. the closest I got was I got the Cat. Control Center to install, but it warned me there was no hardware specific to Cat.that it help with, and sure enough there was no options in CCC, I couldn't even adjust the resolution... is it possible to get full functionality from that card with windows XP? or am I wasting my time?

    Windows will automatically recognize the card and install its version of the drivers. Any extra functionality will come from ATI itself. Your best bet is to look at any identifying markings on the card and looking up those numbers on ATI's website. If you don't find the drivers there, email their tech support and ask for a link to the software for that card. You might have to go to sony to get the software for this specific card. Look for the drivers and software downloads for his specific vaio and you might be able to find what you need.

I have owned that exact card. If memory serves me correctly what you need is the ORIGINAL install disk. It WAS even mentioned until lately that additional functionality such as TV Tuner function and DVD player are LINKED to the original install CD for certain cards. The Catalyst you can download does include catalyst capabilities, but it is NOT compatible with Tuner Cards. Unless your happens to use the EXACT SAME driver. I also have had the same situation with custom sound cards from Diamond. So try and find that same EXACT driver CD. Or just upgrade the card.
