Why aren't any programs opening on my computer?

Problem opening programs on my computer?

  • My computer works great. It boots a little slow, but otherwise it works fine. All of the sudden it just doesn't open programs. When I click on like IE, or firefox, or even system restore, the thinking light comes on and stays lit. My computer will just sit and think forever and never open the program. I press alt-ctrl-del and it takes a bit for that to appear. I then close the program I opened, and the computer is fine. I cant get to a website, and system restore doesn't work. I'm lost. Any ideas? Also whats the best site to find out about reformatting computer. I have xp por disc that came with my compaq.

burn all your document on to a disk or dvd and run system recovery... (install the windows xp you have) and then i will work fine oh before that try this: start> programs>accessories>system tools>disk degragment.... i think then your computer will run smoothly or check this if your computer has enought RAM if not buy one and install it ... hope that helps .. goodluck

try running some DOS-based diagnostic setup stuff. http://www.ultimatebootcd.com using a secondary computer, If you download this file (.iso) burn it to a disc (do a "Burn disc from image file (iso)" - it should be an option on most all burning software). Now the computer should read it as a fully fledged CD (no longer an ISO file). Now you need to go to the failing computer and enter the BIOS and tell the computer to boot from the CD-ROM (the ultimate boot disk) The disk has its own OS which is good for scanning your machine for any problems without entering Windows or even needing use of the Hard Drive. Run a CPU test, do a Virus Scan, etc. etc. etc. It sounds to me like you contracted some kind of really awful something or other - maybe its not a virus per-se but it could be spyware or Malware. The CD i linked you to will have all the tools you need to check it out. If you find that somehow nothing is wrong on the disk, like I said, check the CPU tests and stuff too - never know, it may have done a wonker on you. If the worst should happen the disc is also useful for rescuing your files and doing a clean reformat job.
