What is a POP3?

What is the meaning of a pop3 server?

  • I want to get incredimail onto my computer but am using hotmail. It says hotmail does not allow to use it onto incredimail so I need a pop3 account. Can I make an email in pop3 and then route emails from hotmail into there and also use incredimail while getting emails from hotmail into incredimail.com? I just want to know what I need to do, to make all my emails from hotmail get directed to incredimail which seems real cool and whacky.. Thanks

to me the simplest way to accomplish this would be to just create a whole new e-mail with incredimail and not try to tie it into hotmail at all, cause that seems quite difficult. so when you do create the incredimail one then just tell everyone in your contacts in hotmail of what this new e-mail address is and to have them contact you there instead. Hope this helps and good luck MG, love ya.

Your pop3 account is your main (server account) and will come in via your server. If you want to use another account, just set it up (assuming they have email), and give out that address to your contacts so as they send mail there. ...and your cute!

it is a paid service on hotmail....so u need to pay hotmail for activating it...........if u opt for any paid email account u will get this service.......better stop using sluggish hotmail and move to gmail...........it provides pop3 free.

Setting Up Your E-mail in Microsoft Outlook To Set Up Your E-mail Account in Microsoft Outlook In Microsoft Outlook, select Tools > E-mail Accounts. On the E-mail Accounts wizard window, select "Add a new e-mail account" and click Next For your server type, select "POP3" and click Next. On the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) window, enter your information as follows: Your Name Enter your first and last name. E-mail Address Enter your e-mail address. User Name Enter your e-mail address, again. Password Enter the password you set up for your e-mail account. Incoming mail server (POP3) Enter pop.secureserver.net for your incoming mail server. Outgoing mail server (SMTP) Enter smtpout.secureserver.net for your outgoing mail server. Click "More Settings. On the Internet E-mail Settings window, select the "Outgoing Server" tab. Select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." If you did not change the SMTP relay section, select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server". If you changed the user name and password in the SMTP relay section of your Manage Email Accounts page, select "Log on using" and enter the user name and password. The following example assumes you did not change your SMTP relay section in your Manage Email Accounts page. Select the "Advanced" tab and change the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" port to 80 or 3535. Click OK. Click Next. Click Finish. http://products.secureserver.net/email/email_outlook.htm The POP3 Server In the simplest implementations of POP3, the server really does maintain a collection of text files -- one for each e-mail account. When a message arrives, the POP3 server simply appends it to the bottom of the recipient's file! When you check your e-mail, your e-mail client connects to the POP3 server using port 110. The POP3 server requires an account name and a password. Once you have logged in, the POP3 server opens your text file and allows you to access it. Like the SMTP server, the POP3 server understands a very simple set of text commands. Here are the most common commands: USER - enter your user ID PASS - enter your password QUIT - quit the POP3 server LIST - list the messages and their size RETR - retrieve a message, pass it a message number DELE - delete a message, pass it a message number TOP - show the top x lines of a message, pass it a message number and the number of lines Your e-mail client connects to the POP3 server and issues a series of commands to bring copies of your e-mail messages to your local machine. Generally, it will then delete the messages from the server (unless you've told the e-mail client not to). You can see that the POP3 server simply acts as an interface between the e-mail client and the text file containing your messages. And again, you can see that the POP3 server is extremely simple!
