How do you do a screen dump?

Dell computer doesn't work anymore. Blue screen says "Unknown Hard error. Beginning dump of physical memory"?

  • When I turn on my brother's computer a black screen comes up that gives the options of "Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safemode with Command Prompt, Last Known Good Configuration, and Start Windows Normally". No Matter what option I choose it goes to a black screen and thousand of rows of numbers go by (I guess sort of like the Matrix) and then it goes to a blue screen that says "Unknown Hard error. Beginning dump of physical memory". Although it says Contact system administrator or tech support for further assistance" What is wrong and how can I fix it?

  • Answer:

Try to boot your Dell Computer in the Safe Mode. To do so, press F8 key before it actually starts and then select "Safe Mode with Networking" option. Press ENTER. After you log-on, perform below steps one by one: A) Repair Bad Sectors of your Hard Disk: There may be bad sectors in your hard disk, i.e. your hard disk may be corrupted. Repair it as shown below: 1. Open My Computer. 2. Right click a partition, for example, drive C. 3. Select "Properties". 4. Click Tools tab. 5. Click "Check Now" button. B) Repair the Registry: Incorrect registry configurations can cause Blue Screen of Death. Scanning such registry entries and repairing them would fix the problem. Download a registry cleaner to do the task. 1. Download Reginout registry cleaner tool. 2. Click "Start Scan". 3. Click "Fix Now". 4. Restart the system to finish solving the problem. C) Uninstall Recently Installed Software: A recently installed software may be the cause of Blue Screen of Death. It might have installed some DLL files which no longer supports your operating system version. Uninstalling any newly installed software may help fixing the problem. 1. Click Start | Control Panel. 2. Click Programs | Uninstall a Program. 3. Select a newly installed program and click "Uninstall" button. 4. Follow the wizard and restart the system after it is done. D) Perform a Clean Boot: The term "Clean Boot" refers to booting your system without loading any third party programs or services. This will prevent your computer from showing Blue Screen of Death by avoiding a malfunctioning program from loading. 1. Click Start | Run. 2. Type "MsConfig" and press ENTER. 3. Mark Load System Services as checked and Load Startup Items as unchecked. 4. Click Apply | OK. 5. Restart the system when prompted.
