How can i improve my pc speed?

• I am ueing pentium4 1.7ghz system with 512 mb ddr memory fixed on chipsetmother bord which i had purchased in 2002 december. i had installed windows xp servicepack2 and softwares like MsOffice2007,Adobe photoshopcs3,flashcs3,3dsmax8.0 soundforge9.0 and autocad2008 and few games like thumbelbugs and realplayer,winamp. my problem is it is taking almost 3 minutes to boot my pc. and even it is taking verymuch time to open ie or firefox, and i frequently(everyday) remove all the temp content from my pc how i can improve my pc speed..please help me to slove my problem
