What would be the best computer to run Minecraft?

I played Minecraft at my friends house and I can't get info of it! I have been looking to buy a Desktop computer for a while so I want it to be able to run Minecraft smoothly. I went to the Minecraft website and found a short list of what your computer needs to run Minecraft. Latest version of 64-bit Java. Dedicated graphics card 1 GB of RAM It seems you wouldn't need a fancy computer to play Minecraft. But this is the basics for what your computer needs to run the game. The game will run, but not very smoothy. When I went over to my friends house he had it installed on to his Desktop and it works great! He tried to install it on his laptop and it was very skippy Not sure if the game didn't work as well beacuse it was a laptop? But his laptop did met the list of what was needed to run the game. So I want to make sure I get a computer that can run Minecraft smoothly with no problems. Also, I would like to use Mods and make a server to play online. I know there are a lot of computers that can run Minecraft easily but I don't want to spend over $800 on some high tech gaming computer. I really don't think that's necessary. Is it? O well, Please recommend whatever you think would be the best.

Well jason I can tell you right now i've played minecraft on many computers and I will compare two of them, they are both vista, one was 32bit and the other was 64 bit with a graphics card... The 32bit gets choppy real fast unless fog is on near, but the 64 bit runs excellent! No fog, fancy graphics, and no choppyness the graphics card helps with texture packs that are super complicated but getting your self any computer 64 bit will make all the differance because then you can install 64 bit java which runs minecraft basicly
