What graphics card should I get for Oblivion?

  • Allright, I want a pretty new graphics card that will work for my computer (will give specs) I want it to be able to run games like Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and even better, as in I don't want to have to buy another in a year because of junk. I wish to play Oblivion quite strongly, and although my intergrated graphics card has served me well, it needs a little... boost. So here is what directX says my pc is like when it said I can't run oblivion: Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP professional (5.1, Build 2600) System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. System Model: Dell DM051 BIOS: Phoeniz ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A00 Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4CPU 3.00GHz (2CPUs) Memory: 1014MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) I am not to smart with computers, so I am afraid of getting one that won't work with my pc... If you would please give several options to work from, that would be most appreciated... I can't wait to play Oblivion, I want it to run fast and well.

    Well it all depends on your budget. You say you don't want to buy for another year I recommend the 8800GTS 320 MB very good value for money solid perfomer at resolution 1600x 1200 and below. If you have a bigscreen 30' then go for the 8800GTX its the fastest card in the planet. But if you are still on AGP Your choices are the Radeon 1950GT 512MB and Nvida XFX 7950 GT 512MB I heard that the icube also has made a radeon x1900xt 256mb the most powerful AGP card ever I think you system is quick enough to run it but your ram is not enough. to put it bluntly the newest you can afford, Oblivion is a well documented killer of graphics cards, even now its only realy the top end kit that can deal with it properly
