How can I get digital tv/cable on my Mac?

Why get a Mac when i have Linux PC.?

  • I run a high end computer with Ubuntu 10.10 on it. I always see people online going blah blah i love my mac its so much better than PC but I don't see how. i used a friends mac and when i was using it, i felt like a child. Everything is too simple a monkey can figure it out. Mac users brag about "getting no viruses"... NEITHER DOES LINUX! I can play Windows games on Ubuntu with wine (program). Windows when i use it it feels alright i have no beef with them other than the flame wars started (Hippocrate lol) another thing they are expensive! too expensive for what i'm buying. so mac users tell me why i should get a Mac if i see a logical reason why i should I will go to the local mac store and give in.

  • Answer:

The one good thing about Macs is the fact that OS X is so tightly integrated and optimized for a certain hardware range, which means outstanding performance. That's one thing Apple has done right, is keeping tight integration between hardware and operating system. But the only reason OS X performs as well as it does is because it's based on BSD, which is just a fast and efficient operating system anyway. There really is no reason to use a Mac since there really is nothing it does that can't be done either on a highly customized FreeBSD system or any Linux system.

People that buy the shiny mac don't know crap about computers. They buy the pricey "superior" toy to define their social status and be away from the flock. As you said if your issue is viruses get a budget PC and install Linux on it.Done.

No, there is no such logical reason. If you're happy with the Ubuntu you're using, why change to something that you feel uncomfortable with...? Don't fall for fashion accessories instead of real usable machinery...

You shouldn't. Mac's are just as reliable since there technically running BSD UNIX, BUT they've got the Microsoft mentality with raping your wallet and forcing software and hardware upgrades if you wan't to keep using their crap. Mac's have nothing on Linux.

To put it simply: consumer choice. You might like fiddling with options so you can have an operating system that suits your personal needs, while others prefer a one-size-fits-all approach so they don't need to think about computers. I don't think the problem is which operating system is more capable. It's Mac fans parroting the same lines and Linux fans who (vastly) overestimate the average person's computer knowledge, or the amount of effort they're willing to spend on their computer. Obviously, there is a market for something "so simple a monkey can figure it out". Ubuntu is certainly going in that direction. Just ignore the diehard Mac fans if you already know what's best for you.

I'm no Mac user, but I'll answer your question anyways. Seeing as how you use Linux, and I'm assuming you know what you are doing, there is no reason for you to get a Mac unless you wanted to use a Mac only application and don't want to settle for anything else.

† Oh yeah

I don't know, the MacBook Air seems to be really decent hardware for the money. The closest comparable to the 13" is the Sasung Series 9, which cost $350 dollars more.

I wouldn't unless you do like video editing and make music.Mac Os X is a version of Linux but it is not free.

Well what I have to say about that is why not get a PC with windows 7 Home premium 64-bit and have a good system? I would never allow that Linux bull crap in any of my 8 computers. As for viruses I have been working with computers for more than 18 years and I have never gotten a virus I couldn't take care of yet.
