Can you partition a drive without erasing data?

How to partition a hard disk having only a C drive, after it is loaded with data?

  • Windows XP hardly offers any partitioning asssitance, besides giving a gigantic C partition. Can we partition the HDD after loading it with data, with assistance of software like 'partition magic' etc.

  • Answer:

yup, partition magic is a great tool i'm fresh from re-partitioning my hard drive dynamically so i can vouch that partition magic works, without any data loss what-so-ever i would also suggest you try another tool partition logic http://partitionlogic.org.uk/download/index.html i did try it, but unfortunately maybe version was just not right depending on u'r file system fat32 or ntfs i just backed off when i got warning that it would involve data loss, upon booting from patition logic boot cd i tried version 0.66 > but it needed ntfs not fat32 for dynamic partitioning

Use a third party disk partitioner like partition maggic. this is the most use full programe with which you can partition your hard drive(C:) easily without destroy your data. install partition magic, and then rresize your c drivein to the new sizes you want. then create a new partion on the unallocated space you have create. By this you can create a new partion in your hard drive without any problem. but it has only one precautions, i.e., if you have not ups then do not use the process. this process will take a long time and in this time if your copmputer shuted down it will destroy your data. so keep a good ups and get started.

install partiton magic then open the prgram and create new partiton. the computer will reboot and take awhile to move all the info on the harddisc around and thats it easy as pie.
