Answer:
I bought mine from Cyberpowerpc and it works great. If you buy over the internet then the more you can customize the better. You can cut prices on components you don't need to be that good in order to focus more on what you want like CPU or video cards

I hate to disagree but I would avoid the smaller shops, there is no profit to be made in system building on a scal of less that a hundred thousand units. It really depends on your games. I just built two for under $300 each. High end 3d games can be costly due to the video card but some think they need major horsepower for games like World of Warcraft etc that are relative low requirement. Also important is if you want to play the games or competewith people about your (FPS) Frames per second...this is a very addictive hobby and most hardcore gamers can go overboard for bragging rights of hundreds of FPS. I won't even recoomend a system until I know a little more about what you intend to play. But I would say a minimal decent desktop will be about $300-$350 if you are prudent plus monitor but again it depends on the games. Here is a basic build example: http://channel.tomshardware.com/2007/09/12/the_500_gaming_machine_2007_edition_channel/page2.html Post back you desired games and I wil;l give some better numbers.... Good luck

You can try Dell Inspiron 531s...This one is cool. It is more expandability than HP's SlimLine. Here is a review for it, you can have a look: http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-inspiron-531s-desktop/4505-3118_7-32486102.html It has AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4400+.1GB 320GB 24 inch. I find that a decent deal (with monitor) for it is only $709. http://www.dealstudio.com/viewtopic.php?t=33955

if you dont know what youre doing, i'll make a recommendation. those small computer shops that are run by the owners are great places. go in and tell them what games you want to play and they can design you a great system and save you some money too. they usually offer great customer service and long warranties.
