What is the best cables for HD setup?

Flipping a default HD with a new one as start up w/out confusing computer?

  • -Hi everybody! -Recently I got a new computer that has been great except for the fact that the HD is only 10GB which was the only option at the time since it was custom built. This obviously is not enough space for necessary programs like McAfee, etc, and we kept on getting messages from Disk Cleanup that were never ending since we only have about 11MB of space left. -Luckily since I’ve owned many computers, I found another HD that fits 150GB of space when is definitely the way to go. -Using EASEUS Partition Home Edition (thanks to TheAnswerMan,) I copied all the files from my HP_PAVILION (C:) drive to my new 150GB HD and left all the space on the 150GB HD unallocated since I can’t copy the files to a partition on the 150GB HD. I found this a little weird but there’s probably a reason why this is. -Since I’m pretty sure I did so far, everything correctly, what do I need to do next as far as flipping the hard drives with-out confusing the computer’s start up? Question 5 is where I am stumped so that's the main question. Here are the steps that I have brainstormed and please correct me if I am wrong. 1. Shut down the computer that will be getting the new HD and unplug all the cables. 2. Open the computer case’s cover and locate the Master’s HD slot + drive. 3. Unplug the C Drive and replace it with the 150GB HD. 4. Attach the computer’s case cover and plug back in all cables. 5. Start up the machine, enter boot setup and find the Master + Slave drives and make sure the Master detects the new HD. 6. Enter boot mode and don’t save selected changes. 7. In the system rebooting the computer will/should start up Windows XP with the new HD installed successfully. -Any little bit helps! Sorry for the long length! -Thanks again! -D

  • Answer:

that sounds pretty much right. aslong as you have a bootable OS on the 150 and plug it in the computer should recognize it and boot fine.
