How to dual screen with dell dimension 4700?

Dell 2400 Dimension starts then screen goes blank, help?

  • Dell 2400 Dimension starts then screen goes blank, help? I have a Dell 2400 Dimension and I power up and see WindowsXP then a blank screen. I then tried F8 to go into safemode but the screen went blank again. Next I hit F1, it said dell did not start your PC for safety reasons and said a new software or hardware may have been added. I don't have recovery disc, Dell won't help.... any idea's how to get to "System Restore". ps: I don't care if I lose any files at this point, again I have NO DISC Thanks for any help , getting desperate

  • Answer:

if dell costumer service wont help send them a nasty email to get the attention of a boss. when you call dell tell them you want to talk to a level 2 tech support person and they are better qualified to help than the flunky's that answer the phone.and hope you get one that speaks your langage

Most of the time that happens, it's because the processor is overheating. Sometimes, it's because the cpu fan has failed, others, it's because the cpu fan is so full of dust, that it can't start spinning. Of course, it could also be that your power supply is failing. If it is failing, you'll HAVE to buy a new one through Dell, because the cheaper Dell power supplies are proprietary.

I would attempt replacing the power supply plug, or the ac plug. then i would look at the mother board. I had the same problem and i had to have the whole motherboard replaced. Try the ac plug first.
