How do i Fully Restore my Computer?

How can I fully restore my computer to its orginial settings like it brand new?

  • I'm not a nerd so please help if u can :D I know how to restore it to factory settings though so no help for that.

  • Answer:

This will depend on the computer. (scroll down for Vista) Most XP Systems came with either a Restore Partition (many HPs/Compaqs/Gateways) or Recovery Disks (Toshiba, IBM, others) or asked you to make them when they first turned on (Sony). *** If you have Recovery Disks, back up any data (pictures, music, videos, etc) that you want to keep, find any program disks for software you want to reinstall (you will lose the installed copies of virtually all of them and cant simply back up most of them to copy back on later). Then insert the first Recovery Disk and restart the machine. If it doesnt boot off it, restart the machine again and look for a prompt for "boot menu" - hit whatever key it says (for instance "F12: Boot Menu") and then select the CD/DVD drive. Follow the restore instructions, then restore your data and reinstall any software you need. *** If you are a Recovery Partition, then you *may* get a prompt saying something like "F11: Recovery" - if not, then Google your computer brand and model like this "HP dv8000 start recovery key" (or something similar) to find out what key it is. Again, same as above, back up first, follow the recovery instructions, restore your data and reinstall any apps. *** If you have a Sony or some other model that asked you to make disks and you did not (and can no longer do so) - or you have a model that came with disks and you lost them, you can call the manufacturer and order a new set. It is cheaper than buying a new copy of Windows for the machine. ***In Windows Vista Go into Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore and follow the prompts. You should have multiple options, including going back to an earlier restore point. It will also offer/allow you to back up your data right from the system restore program. Like Popoya was saying you want to back everything up and reinstall your operating system. for instance, If you boot up the computer with your Windows CD it will ask you if you want to just wipe out and reload everything. DO NOT USE SYSTEM RESTORE... this will not wipe out everything, espically if there are viruses that are hidden in the H-KEY registry. you want to wipe everything clean. e-mail me if you want help with this - Dimplepwr85@yahoo

If you really want it to be like, the only way is to clean install your os. It will ERASE everything in your hard disk so you better BACK UP all your important data. From there, just install only the programs you need to keep it at its optimal shape.

Use System restore which is available in System tools <<---Accessories It is useful to store your system back to original . Open the program and choose the first bold date and apply the settings and there you go Brand New PC congrats
