DVD-R Question?
-
Can I burn something else on a DVD-R that has already been used? I'm out of blank disk and I really want to burn something. But when I put it in it says please insert blank disk. Doesn't the R in DVD-R mean I can keep burning over the same disk? If not is there a way to erase whats on a disk and burn my new stuff?

Answer:
the simple answer is no, DVD-R means DVD recordable format, it is a one time recording media, and it is not re-writable. I think you are confused with DVD-RAM (DVD random access memory), developed in 1996, DVD-RAM is a rewritable.

Sorry...you can only use a dvd-r once...you need to buy dvd-rw's if you want to re-use them

No you can only re-write on RW's. (well, RW does stand for re-writable) Sorry, there's no way around it.

If you burn a multi-session disc you can add to it. It appears that the discs you burn have been finalized which means you cant add to them. Next time you burn a disc burn it as a multi-session so you can add on to it as long as you have unused space available on it. You cant burn 2 gigs onto a 4.7 if you already have 3 gigs on it but you would be able to burn 1GB onto it if it wasn't finalized. You can't erase anything off it but I dont think thats what you mean anyway.

You can also use DVD-RAM to record multiple times.

dvd_r is a non rewritable disc. basically once you record thats it. next time by dvd_rw there are re writable and can be erased

nope. you need a dvd-Rw you have dvd recordable, not rewritable IF there is free space on there and you haven't CLOSED the dvd, you can add stuff, but it is impossible to erase anything.. (most burners automatically close a dvd... if it's asking for a blank dvd then it's already been closed)

DVD-R and DVD-RW are a lil different. RW means rewriteable, so what ur talking about makes sense. DVD-R is right-once only, unless u multi-session the burn, meaning u can add more, but never take off.
