What should I look for in a TV Tuner?

I'm Pretty sure i have a TV tuner but XP MCE says i don't please help ASAP?

  • I just got my computer fixed and moved, all of the drivers that came with my computer are on it. I dont have a TV, so i would like to be able to watch TV on my pc, I bought a Dell XPS 400 with media center edition XP (MCE) I can use Media center to watch dvd's and such but it wont read my TV tuner. I think i have one with my computer, there's a slot for the Coax cable to plug into, and there's a chip attached to it, no other non MCE computers have this. I cant read any stickers on the chip because its directly under my sound blaster sound card XD. I dont really look forward to dismantling this computer right as i fixed it. MCE starts fine, my cable is hooked up to the computer and when i click tv in media center, the error says "The Tuner hardware is either malfunctioning or not installed. Please ensure that both the hardware and a valid tuner are installed." And if there's anyway i can fix this, without dropping $200 on a new TV tuner please tell me Thanks

  • Answer:

Right-click on your desktop, go to 'Properties,' go to the very last tab (where you can change your resolution also), click on the 'Advanced Button,' then click on the 'Adapters' tab. That should show you whether or not it's a TV-tuner card or not (it will be labeled as such). The other thing to check, if it does say it is indeed one, is if you have the correct drivers installed for the TV-tuner.
