I recently had a virus which took me ages to get rid of i finally did but now iv got some side effects. Theres a big virus alert written next to my clock. The all programs tab in my start menu is gone. The little log off tab is gone ( the turn computer off is still there) and i cant access my C:\ drive through my computer. I also couldnt acces my task manager or display properties but iv fixed that. I should also mention thatafter i cleared the virus i had lost about 15 gigabytes i dont know what was deleted i can find anything missing i just though id mention it incase it matters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Sounds like the virus screwed your registry! Other than a complete restore of Windows i can only offer this. Remember that Windows Restore runs in the background all the time and when you have a virus infection Windows stores the virus in the System restore files. After you clean the drive the virus returns from the System restore files. To get rid of it completely you need to restore your computer to a time at least 2 days before you were infected. You will probably have to reinstall some of your programs. Then turn off System Restore and reboot. Then run your virus checker and allow it to clean anything found. Then turn on System restore again and reboot. If your registry is destroyed this should fix most of your problems. You may have to manually delete some installed programs before you reinstall them. Hope this helps.

i just took care of the same problem today. Download Malwarebytes'....this took care of everything... if you need to get into the registry, type regedit in the run box and hit enter go to currentuser\software\microsoft\windows\c… and the explorer and system folders have what you need to change....if it says NO or disable in it, even the logoff one, change the value from 1 to 0 (except the nodrivetypeautorun). email me if you need more info.

Sounds like what i had, the virus is not completely gone, you should eventually reformat, but if you have another account on the computer, sign on to that, then run some antivirus software from there, avg, norton, spybot sd, ad aware, then try relogging into the account

Sounds like you need to reinstall your os (operating system) or if you can get into start menu and go to all programs you can do a recovery and go back to the date it was working and perfectly
