What Hardware Should I Use?

What can I use to identify the hardware in my computer, so that then I can find the corrrect drivers?

  • Just upgraded to windows xp professional, but I dont know what drivers to look for because I dont know the hardware that I have. I know there is a program that identifies the correct name of all the hardware which will enable me to find the right software.

open the device manager (RC on My Computer, select properties, click the hardware tab) and look at each hardware device. it will give you the manufacurer and model number to check the driver version and see if any updtaes are avaiable. you can use windows updates to search for newer drivers or go to the manufactuers's site and search yourself.

There is a company called Belarc that makes a program called Belarc Advisor. It will tell you everything you need to know. you can go to DriversHQ.com and download and intstall the Driver Detective. This software will scan your computer and provide you with info on your drivers and a link to DL updated ones if need be.
