How do you know when it's time to get another computer?
-
How old is an "old" computer? Our seems to be acting slow lately, though we don't have dial-up or anything like that. However, our computer is probably 5 years old, give or take a couple. Is that old for a computer? Do you think it is time to get another one? What are your suggestions? Thanks!

Answer:
The only way a computer can not be used is: (a) If you drop it and the motherboard snaps in half (b) A lightning strikes it (c) if you took it to a technitian and he/she said that it's dead. (d) If it becomes too obsolete (like those refrigerator-like computers that made the whole city block's lights flicker when used) Otherwise, computers are fine. My computer is almost 8 years old, and it's lightning fast (10 seconds for logging in) You just have to take care of it well. I don't know your knowledge about computers, but open the thing up and dust the inside once in a while. Dust can build up and do some unwanted stuff. Also, do defragmentation and cleanup often too. If you don't know what they are, Google it.. And make sure that your C: drive has plenty of space. Also, if your computer's too slow and can't do anything about it, increase the RAM and/or reinstall Operating System

Well, its your choice. But, I think its a waste of money when it is still usable. Its not about how old it is, its mostly about if it still works or not. If its acting slow, you should delete some unnecessary shortcuts on the desktop and reinstall your computer if that doesn't work.

When you say "slow", have you run disk defragmenter? It will help your pc's processing speed and memory (RAM). I have one pc that's 8 years old, and it's still productive. It really depends on what you use it for. Feel free to email me.

When should you trade in for a new model? •When the only way to turn it off is to unplug it, and turning it back on is a 50/50 shot... It might be time. •When you have to hold down the space bar to type any letters, and most of them don't work anyway... It might be time. •When your daughter spilled Coke on it two years ago, and the screen is still sticky... It might be time. •When the hard drive is older than Dakota Fanning... It might be time. •When your monitor displays in monotone, except for the left few inches, which haven't displayed much of anything since that time you played dodgeball in the living room... It might be time.
hahaha 5 is not old if you consider a Pentium 3 as obsolete. If your computer is slow, it's because you have malware and trojans on board. Also consider adding more memory. Also scan the hdd and defrag it.

Try re-installing the operating system. Sometimes thats all it takes to make it run brand new again. Maybe add more ram too. If you need help with that, send me an email.

It's old, but as long as it still does what you want at a reasonable speed, it's not TOO old. The moment it can't, then it's too old. :)

I'd just get a computer expert to check it out. I guess if you make sure your computer is virus free, get rid of junk, scan your computer and clear Internet history it might help.

as you know i had problems with mine being slow, it takes a lot to keep one up to par, i was told that with the new updated systems you need a lot more ram to operate than u used to, just clean it up and scan it see if that doesnt help
