How to install USB Drivers from USB flash drive?

Why won't my computer automatically install drivers when i plug a device in such as a usb flash drive?

  • my computer doesn't automatically install drivers for plug n play devices anymore. it used to, it had no problem doing it. but recently it keeps asking for the disk, but with a flash drive and such you don't have disks...i am running windows vista if it matters..thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

Try going through the start menu and open up "my computer" while your flash drive is plugged in, you should be able to see your flash drive as a clickable object. If that doesn't work, I would reccomend going to the support website of the company that manufactored your computer. The last suggestion I could make is to do a system restore, you will lose everything, but your computer will work as when it did when it was brand new...

There are most likely two causes for this: 1) (not likely) The devices you are trying to install are not Plug N Play drivers and they do infact require a disc to install them. 2) The drivers for windows vista are not available yet. This is more likely because there is a whole list of devices that dont auto-install, and you need to look up a vista driver for it on their website.
