How to do HttpWebRequests from a Windows Phone 7?

Why can't windows see my phone? Help.?

  • This might not be a windows problem at all, actually...but... I have a Sony Ericsson 810. I've hooked it to my computer several times with few problems. Was able to access the phone/mem card directly from windows, which was nice. However, I haven't hooked it up in about 2 weeks. Tried today, and nothing happens - *nothing* happens. No beep, no error, no response on either the phone's end, or windows. As far as the computer is concerned, I might as well be sticking a piece of string in the USB port! lol All the USB ports on the computer work (tested with other known-working devices). No conflicts of any kind that I can see. Drivers are installed correctly. Windows XP. No special software is needed to detect or access the phone. Both the phone and computer have communicated previously before, just not for two weeks. Nothing on the phone's end that I can see either. Cable in question is proprietary Sony interface on one end, USB A on the other. (never had problems) Any ideas?

  • Answer:

Let's see here. Cell phone. Windows. Cell Phone. Windows. The problem is regardless of your version of Windows( sans 2K Pro ), it is a broken OS. It is not programmed to see your brand of phone without a third-party vendor driver( in this case, Sony-Erickson ) installed. Go to the Sony homesite, click the " support " link at the top of the page( if not there, then click onto the " site map " link to locate support ) and type your cell model into the search textfield( the little white box located in the upper right-hand corner of the site ). You have to be persistent with your search as Sony has so many products they are s'porting that the site will appear disorganized to the normal end-user( that's a techie term to generalize our rolls as consumers ). If this doesn't work out, contact their 800/ 888 numbers for assistance. Again, persistence is key to receive the service you are desiring. The most drastic option is to buy a Mac. Macs will have your phone driver preloaded into their OS without the hassle Windows presents. Consider loading Ubuntu Linux into your PC on another partition for results until you have the funds to s'port a Mac migration. Just backup your info on the drive b4 the install. This will solve any further issues re: XP( eXtra Problems ). Hope this helps:)

Try to download the Sony Ericsson's mobile software program and let that try and search for a phone dongle. Unless, like my Nokia, on the phone you have to choose between options before the phone lets windows detect its appearance; example: (1) Nokia Mode (2) Printing & ... (3) Data Storage USB cables RARELY ever go bad they are durable.

Try another cable. Test your usb port to make sure its working.
