Problems with my webcam...any help?

I just bought a webcam to talk to my long-distance friends with and I'm having problems with the sound. It's got a built in mic and it's picking up sound perfectly, but when I try to run it through MSN instant messaging, I have to do a video call (rather than 'view webcam' option) to get both sound and video. Is that normal? If so, what's the plain 'webcam' feature on IM for? Plus, I have to wear earphones, since my webcam seems to create interference between it and my speakers, and when I try the video call feature w/o headphones, it screeches and I can't hear a thing. Any tips about this and webcams in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re-install MSN because there's an option about webcam when u install it. so choose the right options.

yeah webcams overall suck! mine doesnt work at all(thsound ) so i cant help you but if you figure it out let me kno because i am about to throw mine out the window!

Yes this is normal "view webcam" is only showing the video, no sound, and it is broadcast to EVERYONE on the buddylist you allow to see it. A video call is with video & sound, between only your comp & one other comp. Sometimes it can be better to do "view webcam" in addition to typing, if the sound isn't working properly or you there's lots of background noise.

Your best bet would be to return the cam and just get a normal one and buy a headset/mic separately. I had a Webcam with a mic built in and all I ever had with it were troubles :(. And yes, you have to run it through a video call on MSN. Just like you'll need to bring up Voice along with the Webcam feature on Yahoo Messenger.
