Can somebody recommend a good gaming pc?

Can anyone recommend a good gaming graphics card for my PC?

  • Ok, I know absolutely nothing about graphics cards and such so if you need more info, please let me know. I'm currently using a Radeon x850 graphics card that's probably about 4-5 years old. I was told at the time that this was a good card for gaming, but I'm sure it's obsolete now. I play MMOs and some single players, just got Dragon Age and loving it but I'm not satisfied with the graphics. I've seen player taken screenshots of the game and mine look rough compared to them. Can anyone PLEASE recommend a really good graphics card, preferably not too terribly expensive that will work and fit my computer. Here are my computer specs, and like I said, if you need more info please let me know. I don't know what info relates to how graphics cards will run on a PC. PC model: Alienware area 51, Windows XP Home edition, Pentium 4 CPU 3.4GHz, 3.0GB RAM Thanks!

There are probably lots of answers to this question. But in order for people to help you they'd have to know what kind of interface your video card is currently using on your motherboard. It's a lot more difficult right now to update an "AGP" graphics card than a "PCI Express" card or "PCI Express 2.0." Only ATI modeled cards are made for the AGP interface anymore and they're not necessarily optimized for the older systems they might be installed in. A good place to start is to find out what motherboard you have. As long as you know what interface you're using for graphics adapters you can go to a site like www.newegg.com and do a guided search of the hardware you might need. If you use the site, don't forget to look at user reviews of different products - different models and manufacturers very greatly in terms of reliability and ease of use. You'll definitely beat store prices by a large margin. One example is a GeForce 9400 GT 512MB from MSI through newegg.com for 50 bucks with a 10 dollar mail in rebate (assuming you're a generation behind with PCI express - NOT 2.0). So for the same price as an 8-series card you get a 9-series with more dedicated memory. Hope that helps!! Happy gaming!

go for a geforce 8800GS and above. my geforce 8800 gs is probably outdated by now but it runs call of duty 4 perfectly. any number above 8800 is good

Try Nvidia

I play World of Warcraft and several other RPG, MMO online games. You want to get a GeForce 8700 or higher. I have the 8700, but the higher the better. You may also want to get one more GB of RAM because that alone can make your graphics not as good as they could be. Windows XP generally supports just about any graphics card and the only thing to remember is to install all the hardware that comes with the card.

i would try the newer GTS 250 videocard. It is essentially a 8800 GTS, but newer. It will hold up pretty well against most games these days, and you won't be dissappointed for the price. If you want to stay with Radeon, I would suggest the 4850 or something in the 4*** series to stay lower in budget, but still high in performance
