Can I use my portable external hard drive to run Itunes?

I have itunes and im about out of hard drive space on my computer..can i run itunes on external hard drive?

  • My music, songs, etc are all stored in My Music on my computer and i was wondering if i can transfer the folder to an external hard drive? i know i have to keep the hard drive plugged in at all times to run itunes and my songs, etc.....is there another way to get more hard drive space on your computer? (i have 73 Gb capacity)

  • Answer:

Yes, to both your question. You can move your music file to an external hard drive. You'd need to resync iTunes to the new folder, but that is easy enough. When you connect your iPod (if you have one) it should link to the new library and update itself to that. As for putting a bigger hard drive in your system, it is totally possible. If you are comfortable digging around in your PC, I've included an article on how to add a hard drive to your PC in the sources. If you aren't sure you're up to that task, any respectable Geek Squad representative should be able install it for around $50 (you may even find a small, privately owned PC shop that would install it for free if you buy the drive from them). Good luck!

Yes, I have some 20K songs on a 500 gig hard drive and have plenty of space for more. I don't keep any music on my computer.
