How can I fix my corrupted USB drive?

USB 2.0 Drive does not work well on my computer... How can I fix this problem?

  • I have a computer which I am assuming is USB 1.1. I have an HP External drive that keeps disconnecting and reconnecting and I cannot retrieve files from it.. I received this message that the drive is 2.0 and I should use a 2.0 USB port for the drive to work faster? What do I need in order to make the drive work? Will having a 2.0 converter/PCI card/ or USB 2.0 hub fix my problem?

  • Answer:

At this point the only option would be to either get the PCI card like you said or upgrade the usb ports itself because USB 2.0 is very fast out dating 1.1 and Fire wire. I am an A+ certified Technician for Microsoft and hope that i have helped you. -w1nd0w5

Other answers

If you install a PCI card that has USB 2.0 your problem should be fixed, although it sounds like your problem may lie in your external hard drive. Try hooking it up to a friend's computer and see if it works.
