What super 8 camcorder is this?

What do I need to plug a DVD/VHS unit and a Super-8 camcorder into my computer so that I can rip some movies?

  • I want to store some movies and edit home movies without having to buy Spielberg's programs. Is it possible to do this for around 100 bucks? If not, what am I looking at?

  • Answer:

mainly, you need a capture card. It will come with the Pinnacle system already mentioned. Or you can buy one on its own for about $20 on ebay then there are many programs way better than Pinnacle. Fitting it is easy you just plug it in then install then plug the wires, install the program, learn the program and you are done. Or, you can get a standalone recorder, easier but I'd go the PC way and suffer the initial learning curve then you'll have much more flexibility.

Pinnacle Studio is the program I have, it works easily and comes with all the parts.

you need to have an analogue to digital decoder (1394 converter, that's waht the're technically called, i think) , connected to your computer. Depending on your PC, it may be connected through USB or 1394 port. Usually the converter has it's own softwere, but if not the free Windows Movie Maker program (if you're using Windows OS) may also be used.
