Dsi sd card question?

How Do I remove write-protection from my 4gb SD card? (Enter question)?

  • I've seen all the answer's for it. Answers to remove write-protection from my card by "Placing a piece of tape over the notch" or "Flipping the switch." I've done all possible thing's that I've seen everywhere online, and I've EXHAUSTED the last of my possibilities. I've placed several piece's of tape over the notch, and I've flipped the switch over, with and without, placing tape over the notch. None of these seem to help, whenever I try to move my files over from my download's to the external drive (SD card) It simply will not compute with my SD card, as it says it is "Write protected." I've bought now 2 SD card's, so I know it can't be the card. I would really like to transfer something to the card, but it won't let me. I've taken into account every suggestion, and every answer I've seen on every site, but none of them seem to aid with my situation. How do I remove write-protection from my SD card with these situations? Someone please help me!

  • Answer:

Have you tried writing to the cards on a different computer, just to see if they work there or not? If they do, then the card reader may be faulty. If another card reader can't write to it then it's the cards. If you're holding the card with the label facing you and the contacts away from you, the lock switch is the little plastic slider on the left edge near the contacts. It should, of course, NOT be slid to the lock position, but should be slid toward the contacts until it stops moving. You MAY have to slide the switch just a little ways towards the lock position, trying a couple positions along the way, to see if it works. The switch activates a contact inside the card, which tells the circuitry that the card is locked, so "putting a piece of tape over the notch" is completely pointless. If the card has been abused, the contact may have broken and may be stuck in the locked position, no matter the position of the external slider. Additional note: If you're using a newer card that's greater than 2GB (SDHC) in a card reader that's more than 4 years old, or a card that's greater than 32GB (SDXC) in a reader that's more than 2.5 years old, they may not support the bigger cards and will act squirrely.
