Why doesnt my webcam work?

  • i have a laptop with a built in webcam - i tried to use it on skype but the message says 'skype did not find preferred video source. webcam could be in use by another application but i have nothing open???

    Download Smart Close http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlsmartclose.html It will close all your programs, if it doesn't work, install the webcam driver again.

Maybe your laptop came with a CD to activate the webcam? Try looking through them all, and see if there's one. If not/ Look through the computer, search 'help' and there should be something there to get your webcam working.

Uninstall the software for the Webcam and reinstall it .

go to device manager and expand on imaging devices, right click on the cam and check everything
