How do I programmatically change the label of a mapped drive?

Xp wont recognize flash drive?

  • ok, so i just installed windows xp on my laptop, and when i plug in any flash/ external hard drive, it wont recognize it, and dont go saying go to computer, right click-> manage,-> disk management, and shoose change label, or sumthin like that, becuz i tried that, and i still couldnt find anything, it still didnt work, can anyone please try to find another way to make it work.... thanx....

Try this it worked for me. Well when you plug in any flash drive it says unknown device or whatever right? What i did when i had this problem was just to pull out the power cord from the back, and flip the power switch. Leave it for like 2 mins and plug it back in and turn it on. hopefully it should fix it

well your problem sound like an issue of you drivers so whoever told you to right click computer and then manage and... they were right but now when you open the window that contains all your drivers is there any explanation marks (!) if there are that means there is a problem with your driver therefore you would have to re-install it and your flash drive should start working

Have you tried another USB port? It could be the port itself is bad. You may look in device manager and go to the usb and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks or yellow triangles there. If there are, the usb port itself is bad.

try restarting first... if that doesn't work, try updating your xp go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329632 and see if that solve your problems go to your hard drive site and troubleshoot if all that doesn't work then all i can say is hope someone have a better ansewr haha

It's either a Driver issue, Or i assume its because your USB Flash Drive is formatted with NTFS file format and XP cannot read USB's with this specific file format.
