Why Does My Usb Drive Show 0 Bytes?

USB drive won't show up on my computers?

  • My classmate gave me his USB with a file for class. I tried it on my desktop (XP) and laptop at home (XP), and my computer at work (Win 7), and it doesn't show up on any of them. The USB lights up, but the drive isn't in My Computer, it isn't in Disk Management, and it isn't in "safely remove hardware". In class tonight I asked another classmate to check to see if it worked on her laptop that she brought, and it opened right up! I got home and restarted both my desktop and laptop and tried again. Still nothing! Why is it not working on any of my three computers??? I need to get this file! And here's the kicker: I just tried all three of my personal USB drives and they work fine, but my classmate's doesn't, yet it works on everyone else's computers.

  • Answer:

With the drive plugged in, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, on the left, Disk Management and activate the drive.
